I'll never forget when I spoke at a marketing event with 700+ attendees and the guy running it was the definition of a mid-2000s "Internet marketing guru".
A combination of charm 'n' smarm.
He didn't care about his peeps. People who flew in from all over the world to attend his event and he couldn't stand them. They actually "annoyed" him.
How do I know?
I was coaching him for a few months (I didn't realize his true nature until it was too late) and I the beginning of the end was when he ran his latest idea by me.
I can't give details, but he was essentially charging $1k for nothing. Zip. It was for the "opportunity" to join a future opportunity (say that 3x fast).
The concept was fishy and I pleaded with him not to do it.
He ignored me. We stopped working together. It bombed. And that was the beginning of the end of his reputation (and business!).
His name came up last month when a friend texted me, "hey, you'll never guess who sent me his resume looking for a marketing job".
