The Exact Cold Email Template I Used To Land Interviews With Top Influencers

“Your network determines your net worth.”

This is a life gospel that’s being taught in books, seminars and by some of the most successful people I know.

Now while my net worth pales in comparison to these giants, upon reflection, I could pinpoint each major milestone in my life by meeting a specific person.

Magic happens when you connect with people whom you look up to.

The problem is just a couple of problems.

  1. How do you reach them?
  2. Why would they even bother talking to you?

That’s where the power of the cold emails come in.

I’ve used these bad boys to connect with influencers in my market that allowed me to grow my network, built my reputation, and scale my business.

Some of them went on to become mastermind buddies.

All because of a “silly” cold email.

So today, I would like to share with you the exact script I use to get responses from the tops guys in my industry (even if they’ve never heard of me… ever!).

This includes:

  1. A sample fictional email using the exact formula from the script.
  2. A step-by-step breakdown of why it works and how to give “extra juice” to increase your chances of getting a reply.

Subject#1: We’d like to feature you
Subject#2: Interview Invite

Hi Troy,

I’m Allan. I’m a Persuasion Mastery member.

Just got done reading your article “5 Sneaky (but ethical) Ways to Embed Persuasion Switches in Your Prospects Mind That You Can Flip On-Demand” and it totally made sense.

That said, I’d love to feature you on my site – SellThisPen.com. It’s all about helping sales agents reach their sales quotas while creating a loyal client base that’ll stick with them for decades.

I’d love to talk about the process of in-person persuasion. I notice that my readers find this topic to be a big sticking point in their careers. I think you’re the perfect guy to help enlighten them.

And I know what you have to offer will resonate with my audience.

If you’re interested, let me know and we can figure out the timing.

Best,
Allan Ngo

1. Subject Line

These people are busy. You must stand out in their inbox immediately. So mentioning interviews & features tells them what the email is about right away and the fact that it means more exposure to them doesn’t hurt.

It helps you get them in the door, the body of your email will make your case whether it’s going to be worth their time.

[Response Accelerator Tip]

  • Tell them you’re their customer: Letting them know you’re their customer instantly boosts your credibility. Everyone knows that getting a new customer is infinitely harder (& more expensive) than keeping one. So he’ll want to keep you happy. Here’s how you can do it right from the subject line.

2. Find a common ground.

“I’m Allan. I’m a Persuasion Mastery member.”

Find a common ground. If you’re a customer, you can mention it here. If not, you can mention what you have in common (i.e. being part of the same FB group or association). This will give him a sense of familiarity and gives them a sense of ease.

It allows them to ask around to check if you’re legit. They probably won’t do it but they have the peace of mind that they could.

Tip: If it’s a paid or exclusive membership, all the better.

3. Do your homework

“Just got done reading your article “‘5 Sneaky (but ethical) Ways to Embed Persuasion Switches In Your Prospects Mind That You Can Flip On-Demand ” and it totally made sense.”

Show them that you did your homework and are familiar with their work. For one, everybody loves it when their work is appreciated. Two, it also shows that you put an effort to choose who you’ll interview and not just blasted emails to everyone hoping to get a response.

It elevates their standing.

4. Intro + Ask

“That said, I’d love to invite you for an interview on my site – SellThisPen.com.

And I know what you have to offer will resonate with my audience.”

Be clear on what you want to do together with them. Let them know who the audience will be and why they’re a perfect fit for your audience.

It helps paint a clear picture in their mind. It’s heard to say yes to something you don’t understand.

[Response Accelerator Tip]

  • Show stats: Remember, we also want to promote them. So if you have a sizeable audience, you can mention that in the email. Also, if you have experience with selling from your interviews, you can tell him how much you can expect to sell from the interview.Basically, we’re answering the question “What’s in it for me?”
  • Refer to past guests: If you have done interviews before, feel free to share a link. It will give them an idea of how the interview will go. Bonus points if you’ve interviewed a big name in the past — you’ll get some “rub” off their name.

5. The Close

“If you’re interested, let me know and we can figure out the timing.

Best,
Allan Ngo
Founder, SellThisPen.com”

I avoid putting a link to schedule the call in the first email. They get a lot of emails already asking them to share a link. I want this email to be viewed as a GIVE rather than a TAKE and make it sound more personal.

It’s just my personal preference.

That’s it!

Now, it’s your turn! Fire up your email and shoot an email to an influencer you’ve been wanting to connect with today.
